Revealing Causes of Breast Cancer in Men



Breast cancer generally affects mostly women. However, men also have a risk of breast cancer. Breast cancer cases experienced only about 1 percent of breast cancer in general.

This was revealed by the Doctor of Oncology of Dharmais Hospital, dr. Bob Andinata, SpB (k) Onk at the Directorate General of Disease Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health of Central Jakarta.

"Although only have a small percentage (1 percent) but in general breast cancer in men more vicious than cancer in women," he said.

He also mentioned breast cancer that occurs in men is usually due to obesity, the abnormalities in the testicles to the influence of taking hormonal drugs.

"In many cases, the symptoms of breast disorders in men are not cancer.Most lumps in men's breasts due to gynecomastia or breast tissue enlarge," he explained.

This cancer can be prevented by maintaining an ideal body weight and healthy through regular exercise and eating healthy foods.

To note, the characteristics of breast cancer in men can be identified with the changes in breast shape, rash or redness appear and changes in skin and pain are great.


Although breast cancer can affect men, other facts, breast cancer is one of the dangerous diseases. It is known, from the inclusion of Breast Cancer in the top 10 causes of death in women in Indonesia with mortality rate 21.5 percent per 100,000 population.

"From Information from Basic Health Research conducted by the Ministry of Health in 2016, breast cancer is one of the highest cancer prevalence in Indonesia that is, 50 per 100,000 population," said Director of Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health, Lily Sriwahyuni Sulistyowati, when met at the Office Director General of P2P, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, September 19, 2017.

He also continued that the people of Indonesia already know that breast cancer is very dangerous and should be wary of early on. However, breast cancer can be prevented by healthy living behaviors and routine breast self-examination performed by every woman, as well as performing clinical breast examination by trained health personnel.

"The Indonesian people all know the dangers of cancer, but even so people's behavior in early detection of breast cancer is still very low, 53.7 percent of people never do self-examination, while 46.3 percent have done it and 95.6 percent people have never done their own checks while only 4.4 percent have done their own checks.
